The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the 2027 governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

The commission moved the deadline from Saturday, August 8, to Tuesday, August 11, 2026, giving political parties additional time to complete the submission process.

INEC announced the extension in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

The electoral body said the decision was made after several political parties appealed for more time to conclude the submission of their candidates through the commission’s dedicated online portal.

INEC explained that the exercise was initially scheduled to close on August 8 in line with its revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election. Following the appeals, however, the commission approved an extension until August 11.

The extension is expected to allow parties that are yet to complete their submissions to do so within the additional window provided by the electoral commission.

Meanwhile, INEC has also announced the suspension of the collection of Permanent Voter Cards in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
