The All Progressives Congress in the Federal Capital Territory says it is working to end the opposition’s dominance of the territory in presidential elections ahead of the 2027 general election.
The FCT APC Chairman, Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, disclosed this in Abuja while speaking with journalists during the presentation of the FCT leadership of the Yari 774 Initiative for Asiwaju.
Yamawo acknowledged that opposition parties had consistently secured victory in the FCT during previous presidential elections but said the APC was determined to change the trend in 2027.
He said the appointment of former Abuja Municipal Area Council Chairman, Micah Y. Jiba, as the FCT coordinator of the initiative would strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.
According to him, Jiba’s political experience and wide network across the territory would help the APC reach more residents and persuade them to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for another term.
“Of a truth, the opposition has always succeeded in winning the FCT in presidential elections against the ruling party. However, the story will change in 2027,” Yamawo said.
Earlier, the Chairman and Convener of the Yari 774 Initiative for Asiwaju, Chief Ibrahim Emokpaire, explained that the presentation of Jiba was aimed at clearly identifying the leadership of the initiative in the FCT.
Emokpaire said establishing an official leadership structure would help prevent misrepresentation and provide members and supporters with a recognised channel for communication.
Jiba, who served two terms as AMAC chairman and also held the position of National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, called on residents to support Tinubu’s re-election as the APC intensifies its mobilisation efforts ahead of 2027.
