Delta State Government has rejected claims by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was involved in any plot to harm him. The government described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to gain cheap publicity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Commissioner for Works, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said Omo-Agege’s accusations during a recent media interview were surprising because the two politicians are not even contesting the same position. While the governor is seeking re-election, Omo-Agege is aiming to return to the Senate to represent Delta Central on a different platform.
Aniagwu noted that instead of presenting his plans for the senatorial district, the former senator chose to make serious allegations against someone not on the same ballot. He stressed that the elections are separate, will not hold on the same day, and the two politicians will not appear on the same ballot paper.
He also dismissed any suggestion that the governor threatened Omo-Agege, describing such claims as inconsistent with Oborevwori’s character. Aniagwu pointed to the relative peace and security in Delta State over the past three and a half years as proof that the governor is not in the habit of making threats.
The commissioner accused Omo-Agege of repeatedly mentioning the governor only to stay in the news. He said many politicians who lack strong records or fresh ideas often resort to such tactics to remain relevant.
Aniagwu made it clear that the Oborevwori administration will not engage in mudslinging. Instead, the campaign for 2027 will focus on the government’s achievements and visible projects across the state.
As an example, he mentioned the ongoing Emevor-Orogun Road, a 15.7-kilometre project linking several communities, including areas connected to Omo-Agege. More than eight kilometres of the road have already been completed in the first two phases, with work continuing on the remaining stretch.
He explained that the administration is delivering projects based on need and not political affiliation, adding that development will continue without being distracted by personal attacks.
