2027: NDC Denies Diverting Funds Raised From Aspirants

Zoyols News

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has rejected claims that it diverted donations and levies collected from aspirants as the country edges towards the 2027 general elections. Party officials insist every naira raised was paid into the designated NDC account and handled by the organs authorised to receive and manage party funds.

Those allegations, the party said on Tuesday, form part of a calculated campaign of misinformation. National Publicity Secretary Osa Director accused unnamed disgruntled actors of twisting the candidate selection process and the party’s financing arrangements to smear an emerging opposition platform still trying to find its feet.

Preparations for 2027 have already stirred fundraising, recruitment and structure-building across the political landscape. The NDC, which has no elected president, governor, minister or other public office holder, argued that this vacuum left it little choice but to seek support from members, stakeholders, aspirants and well-wishers if it was to remain a going concern.

Director said building and sustaining the party without the usual access to office posed an existential test. The leadership therefore moved early to request financial backing, a step it says is written into the party constitution. Contributions, levies and donations, he added, went straight into the official account and were received by the proper party bodies. Political organisations around the world, the NDC noted, routinely take such support from members, supporters and stakeholders.

Zoyols News reports that the party maintains its books are in order and that talk of diversion is propaganda rather than fact.
