42 Clubs Set for N Youth League Cup as New Season Begins

Zoyols News

Nigeria’s N Youth League Cup is set for another major step forward as 42 clubs prepare to compete in the 2026/2027 season, reflecting the rapid growth of the technology driven Under 19 football competition and its growing focus on developing young players for professional careers.

The league has expanded significantly since its launch, increasing from 23 participating clubs in the 2024/2025 season to 36 in 2025/2026 and now 42 for the new campaign. The growth represents an increase of about 83 per cent over three seasons, alongside efforts to strengthen player assessment, improve international scouting opportunities and create clearer pathways into professional football.

Founded by Robinson Adakosa, who serves as its president, the N Youth League Cup is designed to go beyond regular competition by combining organised youth football with performance analytics, talent identification and career development opportunities.

Adakosa said the league was established to ensure that talented Nigerian players receive the development, exposure and professional recognition needed to compete for opportunities in the global football industry.

He noted that Nigeria has an abundance of promising young footballers, adding that the league aims to ensure their progress is properly documented and that they receive consistent competitive exposure to improve their chances of attracting interest from professional clubs.

The competition has received support from the Nigeria Football Federation, participating football associations, professional clubs, academies and technology partners, including Wyscout and Eyeball. These partnerships are expected to strengthen player monitoring and make it easier for scouts to assess emerging talents.

Reflecting on the league’s progress, Adakosa said the original vision was to establish a professionally organised youth competition where promising Nigerian players could gain the visibility they needed to advance their careers.

He expressed satisfaction with the league’s expansion, the development of international scouting connections and the progress of players securing opportunities abroad, describing these achievements as encouraging signs of the competition’s growing influence.

For the 2026/2027 season, the 42 clubs will be divided into three regional conferences. The arrangement is intended to improve geographical representation, maintain competitive balance and reduce the cost of travelling for participating teams.

The conference competitions will also provide a route to the National Super 8 Championship, the league’s flagship event. Sporting Supreme FC emerged as champions of the previous edition, which was held in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.

Beyond the domestic competition, the league is planning an All Star programme in England for November 2026 in partnership with Brooke House College. The initiative is expected to provide additional international exposure for selected players while creating commercial opportunities for participating clubs.

According to the league’s leadership, the broader objective is to help clubs generate resources that can be reinvested in football facilities, coaching development and player welfare.

The new season will begin with fixtures across the three conferences, with several teams expected to face early tests as they compete for regional honours and a place in the National Super 8 Championship.

In the South West Conference, Imperial FC will take on Spartans FC, while Unicorn FC will meet Olympique Lagos Football Academy. Saki Stars Sport Club are scheduled to face Blaze Football Academy, and Athletic SC 2022 will play Awatown Academy. These matches are scheduled to take place at Remo Stadium in Ikenne.

Other South West fixtures include AMG Sports Academy against Seamoriow FC and Shuffle Select FA against House of Prayers. Grassrunners FC will also face Kwara F Academy, while Greenlock FC are set to meet The City Bride FC.

In the South South Conference, Enjima Station Nhecha Football Academy will play Morale FC, while Bayelsa Starlets FA will face FC Prague Nigeria. Golden Stars FA are scheduled to take on Marines City FC.

Sporting 24 FA will meet Edel FC Awka, while Abia Warriors FC are set to face RSMA Peppers Sport Management Academy.

The North Central Conference will feature an encounter between defending National Super 8 champions Sporting Supreme and their familiar rivals, AS Roma Academy U16, Abuja.

Other fixtures in the region include Hyperbuzz against AS Roma U17 and Almasi FC against Darazo Football Academy. JKD Football Academy will also take on One Touch FC.

With an expanded field, stronger technology partnerships and plans for international exposure, the 2026/2027 campaign represents another important stage in the N Youth League Cup’s efforts to improve youth football development in Nigeria and connect emerging players with professional opportunities at home and abroad.
