Akintola Exits Commonwealth Games Boxing Competition

Zoyols News

Nigeria’s boxing campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games suffered a setback after David Akintola was knocked out of the competition following a hard fought defeat to Tanzania’s Yusuf Lucasi Changalawe.

Competing in the round of 32 in Glasgow, Akintola delivered a determined performance but was unable to overcome his Tanzanian opponent, who claimed victory through a 4 to 1 split decision on points.

The result brings an end to Akintola’s journey at the Games, despite his spirited display in the ring against a strong opponent.

With the victory, Changalawe progresses to the round of 16, keeping Tanzania’s hopes alive in the boxing competition as the tournament continues.
