In a significant move to bolster security within Ondo State, troops from the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army successfully neutralized two terrorists during a tactical operation over the weekend. The encounter took place along the Akunu–Auga road in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area, a corridor that has recently been under close watch by security forces.

According to a formal update provided by Major Irabor Njoka, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, the mission was executed on February 14 by personnel stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Auga. Acting on precise intelligence regarding the movement of armed suspects in the vicinity, the troops mobilized quickly to intercept the group. The encounter soon escalated into a fierce gun battle, resulting in the death of two terrorists, while others escaped into the nearby bush with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

Details shared by Reports  reveal that the operation was not a solo effort but a successful collaboration between the Nigerian Army, the Ondo State Security Network Agency—popularly known as Amotekun—and local vigilante groups. This joint approach proved effective in dislodging the criminals and reclaiming the area from their influence.

Following the skirmish, security forces recovered a significant cache of items from the scene. Among the seized hardware was an AK-47 rifle equipped with two magazines and 61 rounds of live ammunition. Other items found in the possession of the suspects included three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, a sum of N39,000, and several items suspected to be illicit drugs and charms.

Major Njoka emphasized that this successful intervention reflects the Army’s steadfast commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no room to operate within the state. He assured the public that the Brigade would maintain its momentum through aggressive clearance operations and increased patrols along known criminal routes. By strengthening ties with other security agencies and local stakeholders, the military aims to create a much safer environment for all residents.

The military command also used the opportunity to remind the public of the vital role they play in national security. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and continue sharing timely information with the authorities, as community cooperation remains a backbone of the ongoing effort to rid Ondo State of criminal activity.
