Troops of the Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, have arrested three suspected drug peddlers accused of supplying illicit substances to terrorists and other criminal groups in Katsina State.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended on Tuesday during a coordinated raid in Kagara village, Kafur Local Government Area, as security agencies intensified efforts to cut off drug supply channels linked to criminal activity in the state.
Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 5:15 p.m. by troops of the Forward Operating Base, Malumfashi, deployed in Kafur, alongside personnel of the NDLEA Area Command in Malumfashi. The raid was said to have targeted suspected drug distribution points within the community.
According to the sources, the operation was part of a broader push to disrupt the movement of illicit substances believed to be reaching terrorists and other criminal elements operating in Kafur and surrounding communities.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Lawan, 34, Muhawiya Haruna, 40, and Junadata Usman, 40.
Items recovered during the operation included substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, tramadol capsules, pregabalin, diazepam, Extol 5 tablets, rubber solution and a substance identified as “Suck and Die” spirit.
Preliminary findings, according to security sources, suggest that the suspects were allegedly involved in supplying hard drugs and other intoxicants to criminal elements active in the area.
The suspects, along with the recovered items, have since been handed over to the NDLEA Area Command in Malumfashi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Security sources said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the military and anti narcotics agency to dismantle the supply and logistics networks sustaining terrorism and other forms of criminality across Katsina State.
