Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury.
The Danish centre back was forced off during Barcelona’s 3 1 victory away to Sevilla on Saturday after picking up the injury. The result helped the Catalan side maintain their perfect start to the LaLiga season.
Barcelona confirmed on Sunday that Christensen’s recovery will determine when he can return to action. The club said he would be unavailable for the next few weeks while his progress is monitored.
The injury is another setback for the 30 year old, who has struggled with fitness problems since joining Barcelona in 2022. His absence will also rule him out of Denmark’s upcoming Nations League fixtures during the international break.
Denmark are scheduled to begin the run with an away meeting against Norway on Thursday before welcoming Wales three days later. They will then face Portugal at home before travelling to Wales for the return fixture on October 4.
Christensen’s latest injury comes as Barcelona continue their strong start to the campaign. Their victory in Seville moved them six points clear at the top of LaLiga, although that lead could change after Real Madrid’s derby meeting with Atletico Madrid.
