The Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ike, has tasked Christian leaders to prioritize service, holiness, and humility in their pursuit of advancing Christendom and bettering society. Bishop Ike made this call during the inauguration of the new executives of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) in Enugu.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place on Saturday, saw the CCN National President, Most Rev. David Onuoha, usher in the new Southeast executives led by Territorial Envoy, Dr. Levi Monanu. Other members of the executive include Most Rev. Ibeawuchi Agu, Rev. Steven Nlemchukwu, and Bishop James Igwe, among others.
Bishop Ike, who hosted the event, emphasized the importance of Christian leaders emulating Christ by using their positions to serve both God and humanity. He reminded them that unity among Christian faithful is crucial and that without holiness, no minister can truly serve God.
The bishop also cautioned against the dangers of prosperity preaching and fake miracles, urging leaders to instead focus on shining as lights in the world through their character and truth. He advised them to avoid comparing themselves to others and to prioritize teamwork, patience, service, humility, and gentleness.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Monanu assured the CCN national body that the new executives from the Southeast would work tirelessly to promote love, equity, and harmony across the land. He also encouraged the people of the zone to actively participate in the democratic process by registering, obtaining their voter’s cards, and voting for credible leaders at all levels of governance.
