BUA Cement Expands with N340bn 3-Million-Ton Plant in Sokoto

BUA Cement Plc, makers of BUA Portland Limestone Cement and Sokoto Portland Limestone Cement, has signed a major agreement with CBMI to establish a state-of-the-art 3-million-ton-per-year cement line in Sokoto. The project, valued at $240 million (N340.4bn), aims to boost production capacity, strengthen regional supply, and meet Nigeria’s growing infrastructure demands.

The new plant will raise BUA’s annual production capacity to 20 million tons once completed and is strategically positioned as the only cement facility in Nigeria’s North-West. This location will allow easy access to both domestic markets and neighboring landlocked countries, enhancing the distribution of high-quality Nigerian cement to critical infrastructure projects across the region.

“This marks a significant milestone in BUA Cement’s expansion journey,” the company said. “The agreement builds on 15 years of successful collaboration with CBMI, which has delivered 14 million tons of cement production lines at BUA’s Obu and Sokoto factories.”

The Sokoto project includes not only the new cement line but also a power plant and other essential facilities. Energy for the plant will be supported by BUA’s ongoing 700-ton-per-day mini LNG plant in Kogi, expected to be completed later this year, providing clean, reliable power while improving efficiency and reducing emissions.

BUA Cement highlighted that the current investment comes amid transformative reforms that have made it easier to operate factories and stimulate infrastructure development in Nigeria. The company anticipates creating jobs, supporting critical construction projects, and contributing to industrial growth in the region.

With a targeted completion timeline of 20 months, BUA Cement is confident that the Sokoto plant will reinforce its leadership in Nigeria’s cement industry and expand its reach across West Africa.
