Court upholds 490-year sentence for former NEXIM Bank boss

Zoyols News

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the conviction and 490-year jail sentence handed to former NEXIM Bank Managing Director, Robert Orya, over a N2.4 billion fraud case.

A three-member panel led by Justice Muhammed Danjuma dismissed Orya’s appeal, ruling it lacked merit. The judgment was delivered on Tuesday, confirming the earlier ruling of the FCT High Court which found him guilty on 49 counts, including obtaining money by false pretences, forgery and advance fee fraud.

Orya was first arraigned by the EFCC in 2021. He had served as Managing Director of NEXIM Bank from 2009 to 2016. The appellate court affirmed the lower court’s sentence of 10 years on each count, to run concurrently.
