Davido has moved to clear the air after shooting broke out near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, insisting the clash had nothing to do with him or his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Afrobeats star took to his official X account after word spread that suspected hoodlums had confronted the governor’s convoy following a visit to the monarch. He wrote that it was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with them, adding that the people love His Excellency.
Accounts from the area said the standoff quickly turned into an exchange of gunfire between the suspected attackers and the governor’s security detail. The shooting is said to have lasted about 12 to 15 minutes before those involved fled, sending traders and residents around the palace into panic.
The state government later confirmed that Adeleke’s convoy was attacked and that his security personnel returned fire. Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, described the attackers as hoodlums and said the governor’s security team successfully drove them off. They attacked the governor’s convoy at Ataoja’s palace, he said, and there was no casualty.
The incident happened on the same day Adeleke collected his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, formally confirming his re-election as governor of Osun. He won the August 15 contest with 511,067 votes, while All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji polled 444,815.
