Davido Reacts as APC Picks Uzodimma to Lead Osun Campaign

Zoyols News

Afrobeats star Davido has responded to the decision of the All Progressives Congress to appoint Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, as Chairman of its National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

The APC announced Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, as the party’s campaign leader ahead of the governorship poll scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Reacting to the announcement, Davido said he has great respect for the Imo governor, noting that the state is also his wife’s home state. Despite that admiration, the singer made it clear that politics would put them on opposing sides during the election.

Sharing his reaction, Davido wrote, “Chai, and I like Hope o. My wife’s state. Hmmm. No worry, we go meet for field,” suggesting they would face each other politically when the campaign reaches its peak.

The singer’s latest comment comes only days after he took a swipe at former presidential aide Reno Omokri, describing him with harsh words while reacting to an interview concerning why Omokri had yet to resume his diplomatic assignment in Mexico.

Davido also recently directed criticism at former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, describing him as the most desperate politician in the world, although he did not reveal the reason behind the remark.

In recent years, the award winning singer has remained deeply involved in political activities, particularly in Osun State. He played an active role during the governorship campaign that produced his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and openly celebrated the victory across his social media platforms.

His support has continued beyond the election. In 2024, Davido praised Governor Adeleke over the completion of a major building project in Osun State, highlighting the administration’s developmental efforts.

That same year, the music star also showed strong interest in the Edo State governorship election. He questioned directives issued by the police to voters and criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission, urging Edo residents to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.

Davido recalled his vocal involvement during the 2022 Osun governorship election, saying he had consistently spoken out to defend the electoral process. He also expressed his readiness to play a similar role as Osun prepares for another governorship election in 2026.
