Senate President Godswill Akpabio has spoken openly about the rise in financial allocations to state governments under the administration of Bola Tinubu, describing the development as a major shift in available resources for governance. He noted that state leaders now receive significantly more funds than were available during his own time as governor, estimating that current allocations are roughly four times higher than what was previously obtainable.

Speaking during a plenary session, Akpabio explained that the increase in revenue gives state governments stronger financial capacity to drive development projects across local communities. He emphasized that with more funds available, governors now have greater opportunities to improve infrastructure, strengthen social programs, and bring development closer to grassroots populations. According to him, the change represents a new phase of governance where financial limitations are less restrictive compared to earlier years.

He also expressed optimism that the additional resources would be managed wisely. While acknowledging the advantage current governors have, he encouraged them to combine financial strength with good leadership decisions. He spoke with a tone of admiration, saying the present generation of state leaders enjoys opportunities that were not available in previous administrations, especially in terms of funding for development initiatives.

Akpabio further reflected on his personal experience in office, jokingly saying he would have preferred to serve as a governor during this period of higher allocations. He stressed that the goal should not be about returning to past systems, but about ensuring that the current financial opportunities translate into real improvements in people’s lives. Zoyols notes that his comments highlight ongoing discussions around fiscal capacity and state development in the country.
