Jide Kosoko Elected New Oloja of Lagos

The Kosoko Royal Family has officially named Prince Abdulrafiu Babajide Akanni Kosoko as the Oloja of Lagos-elect, marking a proud chapter in Lagos’ rich royal heritage.

The announcement was made on January 27, 2026, at the Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island, with a large gathering of royal family members witnessing the culturally significant event. Traditional rites, prayers, and celebrations filled the palace, reflecting the family’s deep respect for Lagos customs and history.

Prince Kosoko was formally presented to the assembly by the Olori Ebi General of the Kosoko Royal Family, Mutiat Ashabi Ali-Balogun, who raised his hands in affirmation, symbolizing the family’s unanimous support. She was joined by the Deputy Olori Ebi General, Oyindamola Ayepola, who also serves as the Head of the Meshimo Ruling House.

With this formal declaration, Prince Abdulrafiu Babajide Akanni Kosoko assumes the title of Oloja-elect of Lagos, awaiting his official traditional installation and capping by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, in line with longstanding palace protocols and traditions.
