Kanayo O. Kanayo Slams Xenophobia in South Africa at AMVCA

Zoyols News

Veteran Nollywood star Kanayo O. Kanayo has sent a powerful message to the continent, calling for an immediate end to the recurring xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The legendary actor used his platform to advocate for a more unified Africa where every citizen can feel safe and protected regardless of their home country.

His appeal came during the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, where he was honored with the prestigious Industry Merit Award. While accepting the recognition, Kanayo took a moment to reflect on the long journey of the African film industry, dedicating his trophy to the actors, producers, and crew members who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes for decades. He paid an emotional tribute to the pioneers of the craft, many of whom have since passed away or retired in poor health.

The actor spoke candidly about his own longevity in the spotlight, admitting that standing on such a grand stage often makes him reflect on the sacrifices he has made over the years. According to reports by Zoyols News, he expressed deep gratitude for still being active and healthy enough to witness the industry’s growth into a global powerhouse.

Addressing the business side of the craft, Kanayo encouraged the French media giant Canal+ to remain committed to its investment in African entertainment. He noted that the film and television industry remains one of the few genuine bridges connecting different cultures across the continent and should be nurtured at all costs.

However, the mood turned somber as he addressed the ongoing tensions and violence directed at foreign nationals in South Africa. Kanayo insisted that it is disheartening to see Africans feeling like fugitives within their own continent. He urged everyone in attendance and those watching across the globe to speak out against these attacks, stressing that Africans cannot keep running away from their own land.
