Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has announced Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 election, with Princess Damilola Sonayon James named as his running mate.
The announcement was shared on Thursday via his verified X account, where he described the pair as a leadership combination positioned to sustain ongoing development and push the state toward further progress.
Sanwo Olu explained that the decision reflects the party’s commitment to continuity, competence and inclusive leadership, stressing that effective governance depends on trusted and capable hands with a clear direction for the future.
He spoke highly of Hamzat, noting that his role in the current administration has shown him to be a reliable partner in governance and a public servant committed to steady progress and development in Lagos State.
The governor also praised Sonayon James, describing her as a sustainability professional with strong grassroots engagement and a passion for community development and youth empowerment. He said her background aligns with the needs and aspirations of many residents across the state.
According to him, both candidates bring experience, energy and the required capacity to build on existing achievements and continue moving Lagos forward in a steady and structured direction.
He called on party members, stakeholders and residents of the state to support the ticket as preparations continue ahead of the upcoming governorship election, describing it as part of a shared vision for a stronger and more developed Lagos.
