Former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro, is celebrating his 66th birthday today, July 28, marking another milestone in a political career that has spanned several decades.
Obanikoro recently returned to the spotlight following his appointment as Director General of the Lagos State governorship campaign for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
His journey in public service began at the grassroots as Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government before he joined the Lagos State Executive Council in 1999. He was appointed Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture by then Governor Bola Tinubu, a position he held for four years before winning election to the Senate.
After contesting for the Lagos State governorship on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and falling short, Obanikoro was appointed Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, where he represented the country’s diplomatic interests.
His service at the federal level continued under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. During that period, he was appointed Minister of State for Defence before later serving as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, contributing to national security and foreign policy matters.
As he celebrates his 66th birthday, Obanikoro remains a familiar figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, with his latest appointment placing him once again at the centre of Lagos State’s political activities ahead of the governorship election.
