For many Nigerian entrepreneurs, the humble business card has long been the primary symbol of professional credibility. However, in today’s fast-paced digital marketplace, relying on paper or even scattered digital contact details—is becoming a significant liability. Businesses are losing thousands of potential customers annually, not necessarily due to inferior products, but because of the sheer friction involved in simply being found and verified.
The digital landscape has become a double-edged sword for local firms. As businesses spread their presence across platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Google, their contact information often becomes a fragmented mess of outdated phone numbers, broken links, and conflicting addresses. This lack of a unified digital footprint creates a “trust gap,” which scammers are increasingly exploiting to impersonate legitimate brands.
To combat this, a digital identity firm known as NativeID is launching a free platform designed to consolidate these scattered details into a single, verified page. The goal is to provide a structured “identity layer” that shields small and medium-sized enterprises from the rising tide of social media impersonation.
NativeID’s product manager, Esther Ukachi, highlights that this fragmentation is the single biggest entry point for fraud. She points to the common frustration of a customer searching for a business, only to find three different phone numbers and conflicting locations across various social media profiles. In such instances, the customer is often left to guess which one is authentic, and in the confusion, the business loses the sale.
By replacing these disjointed pieces of information with a structured, one-scan identity, the platform aims to restore clarity to the customer experience. The company describes this as a move away from the traditional, messy way of sharing contact details toward a more professional architecture.
Ultimately, NativeID is positioning itself as more than just a digital address book; it is intended to serve as a foundational identity layer for the modern professional. By ensuring that speed and verified information shape a customer’s decision, the platform hopes to help businesses reclaim their trust and focus on growth rather than defending their reputation against imposters.
