Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens kept their momentum going at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Tanzania, delivering a dominant performance to crush Malawi by 94 runs on Match Day 2.
Building on their hard-fought four-wicket victory against Uganda in the tournament opener, the Nigerian side secured back-to-back wins with a polished display of dominant batting and sharp bowling reported by Zoyols News.
After Malawi won the toss and sent Nigeria in to bat, the Junior Female YellowGreens set a formidable target by scoring 152 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. Shola Adekunle spearheaded the innings with a crisp 32 off 27 balls, featuring five hits to the boundary.
Solid support came right across the batting lineup. Omosigho Eguakun maintained her strong run of form with a brisk 26 from 19 balls, while Beauty Oguai matched her total with a well-paced 26 off 28 deliveries. Team captain Christabel Chukwuonye injected explosive energy into the middle order, smashing 20 runs off just 12 balls with a strike rate of 166.67, including two boundaries and a maximum. Valuable late contributions from Inyene Umoh, Jennifer Godwin, and Jessica Bieni comfortably pushed Nigeria past the 150-run landmark.
Faced with a steep run chase, Malawi’s response collapsed under continuous bowling pressure. Nigeria’s attack struck early and kept the opposition pinned down, taking wickets at regular intervals to dismiss Malawi for just 58 runs in 18.3 overs.
The convincing victory firmly establishes Nigeria as a frontrunner in the Africa Qualifier as the team continues its drive to secure a spot at the global showpiece.
