Kogi-born activist Usman Okai Austin has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure Kogi East gets fair representation in the ongoing ward creation exercise.
Okai accused INEC of sidelining the senatorial district, claiming the current proposal heavily favours Kogi West. He listed several local governments in the West set to receive additional wards, including Ijumu with nine new wards, Yagba East with six, and Okene with five, while all nine local governments in Kogi East received none.
He warned that the imbalance could spark political unrest, stressing that Kogi East has the largest population and landmass in the state. Okai called on the commission to review the proposal and act as impartial arbiters rather than favour one zone.
