Rentcom, a technology driven housing company founded by a group of young professionals, is seeking to address the shortage of quality accommodation for workers in Lagos through a planned development of 1,000 furnished and serviced apartments across the city.
The company said its Workforce Apartments Lagos project was conceived in response to the growing need for professionally managed housing, particularly in areas close to major employment and commercial centres.
The first phase of the project will consist of 100 apartments spread across three locations. The units are expected to provide fully furnished and serviced accommodation for professionals who want convenient housing within easy reach of their workplaces.
Speaking on the initiative, Rentcom founder, Dr Adeosun Williams, said the project was designed to bridge the gap between housing demand and investment in rental infrastructure capable of generating sustainable income.
“We are interested in financing infrastructure that can sustain itself through the revenue it generates,” Williams said.
He explained that Rentcom focuses on projects where there is a clear shortage of infrastructure and strong demand capable of supporting the investment.
Williams said the company was not viewing the project simply as another residential development, but as a long term income generating asset built around an identified economic need.
“We are not approaching Workforce Apartments simply as an apartment development. We are financing rental infrastructure,” he said.
“The objective is to create an asset that addresses a real economic need while generating recurring revenue over its useful life.”
The initial 100 apartments will serve as the foundation for Rentcom’s wider 1,000 unit programme. The company said the larger development would expand access to serviced rental accommodation while creating a portfolio of assets capable of producing regular income.
Rentcom said its broader model involves identifying infrastructure gaps, arranging the necessary capital for development and creating assets whose revenue can support their operation over the long term.
According to the company, the same approach could be extended beyond housing to other infrastructure projects where there is proven demand and a sustainable source of revenue.
The Workforce Apartments Lagos project was officially flagged off on September 25, marking the beginning of Rentcom’s plan to expand professionally managed rental housing across key parts of Lagos.
The company said the initiative is ultimately aimed at easing access to quality accommodation for workers while developing sustainable rental infrastructure that can continue to generate value over time.
