Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has advised women to be careful about who they choose as life partners, urging them not to end up in marriages filled with resentment instead of friendship.
Sharing a personal experience on her Instagram page, the actress recounted an incident that happened while she was driving out of her estate in Lagos. According to her, she noticed a woman she often saw around the neighbourhood standing by the roadside during heavy flooding and assumed she was trying to get a taxi. Out of concern, Sarah offered to give her a lift.
She explained that she had no idea the woman was walking with her husband because the man was some distance behind. Moments after the woman entered the car, a man began shouting angrily and directing insults at both of them. Curious about the confrontation, Sarah asked who he was, only to discover he was the woman’s husband.
Sarah said she tried to calm the situation by driving closer to explain that she had only offered assistance because of the flooding. However, the man allegedly continued hurling insults and curses despite her efforts to clear up the misunderstanding.
Reflecting on the encounter, the actress said the man’s reaction left a lasting impression on her. She revealed that she could see what she described as deep anger and bitterness in his expression, adding that she eventually asked the woman to leave her vehicle and return to her husband to avoid possible trouble when they got home.
Using the incident as a lesson, Sarah urged women to choose partners who are also their friends, stressing that no one should end up married to someone who treats them like an enemy.
Her comments come not long after she revealed that she once rejected a marriage proposal, even after a man rented an entire cinema for a private proposal. Sarah explained that her past relationship experiences have made her cautious, adding that she is not ready to enter another relationship.
She has also consistently spoken against the pressure placed on women to get married. During discussions surrounding Frank Edoho’s marital challenges, the actress questioned why society continues to criticise women who choose to remain single. According to her, she would rather enjoy a peaceful single life than rush into a marriage simply to satisfy public expectations.
In an earlier social media post, Sarah also challenged women who mock others for not being married. She recalled being busy working on a movie set when an online troll attempted to shame her over her relationship status, urging women to support one another instead of tearing each other down.
The actress has previously made headlines after claiming that a married woman once offered her ten thousand dollars to join her and her husband in a threesome. Sarah said she immediately rejected the offer, insisting she had never been involved in such an arrangement.
She also addressed an unnamed married woman who allegedly suspected her of having an affair with her husband. Sarah denied being involved in breaking up homes and went further to claim that the woman’s husband was involved in relationships with other men.
On another occasion, the Asaba based actress recalled slapping a married man who allegedly approached her and asked for her phone number so they could begin a relationship. Sarah said she found the request disrespectful and urged married women to ensure their husbands conduct themselves appropriately.
