A nineteen-year-old woman, Khadija Ibrahim, is currently in police custody in Kebbi State after being arrested for the alleged abduction of a newborn baby. According to information gathered by Zoyols News, the suspect, a resident of Rikoto in the Zuru Local Government Area, is accused of taking the child and deceitfully presenting the infant to her husband as her own.
The incident reportedly took place on July 23, 2025. Investigations suggest that the suspect visited the biological mother, Fatima Muhammad, shortly after she had given birth. Under the guise of helping with household chores, she offered to fetch hot water for the mother but instead vanished with the newborn.
Police findings indicate that the suspect had been under immense emotional and social strain due to her inability to conceive, a situation exacerbated by the pressure of seeing her peers start families. To maintain the charade, she had allegedly spent the previous nine months deceiving her husband into believing she was pregnant, ultimately choosing to steal another woman’s child to complete the fabrication.
Following a thorough investigation, officers apprehended the suspect on August 14, 2026. The infant was successfully recovered and has since been safely returned to the biological mother. Officials confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will face legal proceedings once the formal investigation wraps up.
The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar Hadejia, praised his team for the diligence shown in tracking down the suspect and ensuring the safe recovery of the child. As reported by Zoyols News, the Commissioner emphasized that the command remains fully committed to the protection of children and vowed that anyone involved in such criminal acts will face the full weight of the law.
