Tragedy struck the Ogwashi-Uku community in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State following the gruesome killing of a 20-year-old man, identified as Umaru Haman. The Delta State Police Command confirmed on Sunday that the victim was allegedly stabbed to death by his own brother in the early hours of January 8.

The incident occurred around 3:20 AM near Adaigbo Filling Station along Poly Road. The victim was reportedly sleeping when his brother, Aliyu Haman, who is also 20 years old, carried out the fatal attack. Preliminary findings by the police suggest that Aliyu, a herder by occupation, is a suspected drug addict, a factor that may have contributed to the violent outburst.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, noted that the Ogwashi-Uku Division was alerted to the crime shortly after 7:30 AM on the day of the incident. In response, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Israel Okoyomon, led a team of detectives to the scene to secure the area and begin an immediate investigation.

The suspect was successfully apprehended by the police, and the weapon used in the stabbing has been recovered as evidence. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to the Odua Mortuary in Ogwashi-Uku, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

As it stands, Aliyu Haman remains in police custody while investigators work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the motive for the killing. The local community has been left in shock by the incident, particularly given the close relationship between the suspect and the victim.
