Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has responded to criticism over her continued promotion of Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures, following the death of socialite Elena Jessica. The influencer reportedly passed away due to severe complications after her second BBL surgery at Cynosure Clinic in Lagos.
Addressing the backlash in a video on her Instagram page, Uche acknowledged the risks involved with BBL but stressed that every surgical procedure carries potential dangers. “Yes, BBL is risky, but which surgery isn’t? People die from fibroid surgery, C-sections, and even headaches,” she said. She urged anyone considering BBL to educate themselves thoroughly, choose a reputable hospital and qualified doctor, prevent infections, and follow aftercare instructions diligently.
Uche emphasized personal responsibility in making informed decisions. “Just make sure you are well-informed about the surgery you want. Use a good hospital and a good doctor. Make sure you don’t allow infection to enter your wound and take your aftercare seriously,” she added.
The debate over BBL has drawn attention from several public figures. Media personality Toke Makinwa recently reflected on her own experience with the procedure, sharing that she no longer values having a big bum. Actress Mary Njoku highlighted the importance of natural beauty and urged women to prioritize developing their minds and skills over altering their appearance.
Meanwhile, Daddy Freeze criticized the trend, likening the look achieved by BBL to that of a camel, and questioned the benefits of the surgery given its risks. Veteran actor Kanayo Kanayo also weighed in, suggesting that BBL doesn’t provide long-term advantages, and questioning why husbands weren’t financially supporting such enhancements if they truly added value.
Uche Ogbodo’s remarks come amid growing conversations around cosmetic surgery in Nigeria, highlighting the need for education, caution, and informed choices when it comes to aesthetic procedures.
