The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has dismissed ten officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for misconduct, while twenty-one others faced various disciplinary actions for offences ranging from gross indiscipline to breaches of service regulations.
The sanctions were approved after the board’s Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee met on July 11, 2025, to review pending disciplinary cases. The move reflects the board’s determination to uphold integrity, accountability, and professionalism within all the services under its supervision.
In a statement released in Abuja by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration R. Akinsola Akinlabi, eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct and violations of service rules, while five others were compulsorily retired for related offences. Another eight were demoted by one rank, and five received formal warning letters.
Akinlabi noted that two dismissed officers appealed their cases but failed to convince the board, which upheld their termination. However, one officer was reinstated following a successful appeal, while two others were completely cleared of all charges.
In a separate internal investigation, two junior personnel were dismissed after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy involving theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping. The disciplinary processes for these cases were concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025.
The disciplinary measures were carried out under the supervision of the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the CDCFIB, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.
Akinlabi emphasized that the service remains committed to enforcing discipline without bias or compromise, ensuring that every officer upholds the ethical and professional standards expected of the NIS.
