The Allied Peoples Movement has declared that its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has what it takes to win the 2027 presidential election, insisting that many Nigerians see him as a credible alternative to President Bola Tinubu.
The party also confirmed that it has successfully submitted the nomination details of Makinde and its other candidates through the Independent National Electoral Commission nomination portal in line with the approved electoral timetable.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, said the submission covered the party’s presidential, vice presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates.
According to Yusuf, completing the nomination process represents another important step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election. He explained that the APM is strengthening its grassroots presence across the country while focusing on presenting candidates with the experience and credibility needed to earn the confidence of voters.
He said the party remains optimistic about its chances because of its continued engagement with Nigerians and the quality of candidates it is presenting for various elective positions.
Yusuf maintained that Governor Makinde’s record in Oyo State has distinguished him as one of the country’s most accomplished governors. He argued that the governor has consistently demonstrated the leadership, vision and administrative ability required to confront Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He added that Makinde’s achievements in governance and public finance management have earned him national recognition, making him the preferred choice for many Nigerians seeking a new direction for the country.
The APM spokesman further described Makinde as a leader known for prudent management of public resources and responsible governance, saying those same principles would shape an APM administration at the federal level if elected.
He also portrayed the governor as part of a new generation of leaders, combining experience with youthful energy and the ability to unite Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion. Yusuf expressed confidence that Makinde possesses the competence, integrity and courage needed to restore public trust in government and reposition the country.
Addressing the nation’s challenges, Yusuf said the party is committed to tackling insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and the rising cost of living. He stressed that improving the welfare of citizens would remain the central focus of government policies under an APM administration.
He noted that Nigerians have continued to express concern over worsening living conditions, insecurity and shrinking economic opportunities, adding that the country requires practical solutions backed by compassionate and responsible leadership.
According to him, Makinde has both the commitment and capacity to strengthen national security, revive the economy and ensure that Nigerians benefit from good governance.
The party also claimed it has continued to attract new members and supporters across the country following the emergence of several prominent political figures on its platform. Yusuf said the growing support reflects increasing public confidence in the APM ahead of the next general election.
He specifically praised Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is contesting for a Senate seat on the party’s platform. Yusuf described Mohammed as an experienced leader whose contributions would strengthen the party’s vision for effective representation and national development alongside its other candidates.
The APM also took a swipe at the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing the government of failing to adequately address insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and the rising cost of living.
Yusuf argued that the country’s current challenges have convinced many Nigerians that a new leadership approach is necessary. He said the APM offers a government built on competence, accountability and policies that place the interests of the people above all else.
