Renowned fashion house Ade Bakare London has unveiled a fresh Ankara collection for the Summer 2026 season, offering a modern take on the timeless fabric with pieces designed for different occasions and moments of the day.
The collection brings together a mix of refined and versatile looks, including flowing long dresses with sculpted bell sleeves, wrap dresses finished with soft pleats, tailored Ankara suits paired with delicate lace, and elegant jumpsuits detailed with rope straps and ringlet accents. Each piece is designed to move seamlessly from daytime settings to evening outings, blending comfort, style and sophistication.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the collection, Ade Bakare said special attention was given to craftsmanship and finishing, with design elements such as pleats, gathers, bell sleeves and graceful frills used to create silhouettes that feel both timeless and contemporary.
According to him, the collection also serves as a tribute to Ankara, its rich history, its wide embrace across Africa and the lasting role it continues to play in the story of African fashion.
Bakare explained that Ankara is not a fabric the fashion house uses regularly, as the brand has long maintained a stronger preference for indigenous African textiles as part of its commitment to preserving and promoting the continent’s original fabric heritage.
He, however, noted that every five years, Ade Bakare Couture puts together a special Ankara collection as a way of celebrating the fabric’s remarkable journey and its enduring influence within African fashion.
