Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly dismissed a circulating social media post that falsely quoted him as criticizing former U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent comments on alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria.
The fake post, shared by Rant HQ, falsely claimed Akpabio said Trump should “focus on the U.S.” and that Nigerians were “satisfied with the killings.”
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio condemned the report as a deliberate act of falsehood designed to stir confusion and damage relationships between Nigeria and its allies.
Eyiboh described the publication as a “fabrication born out of mischief” and urged Nigerians to disregard it completely. He emphasized that no such remarks were ever made by the Senate President and warned against the abuse of free speech, stressing that “freedom of expression must not be twisted into freedom to spread lies.”
He reaffirmed Akpabio’s commitment to promoting truth, unity, and responsible public discourse, noting that attempts to distort his views for political or sensational purposes would not succeed.
