Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare is set for a fresh challenge after agreeing to join Dutch giants Ajax on a season long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Ajax have reached an agreement with Wolves for the temporary signing of the Nigerian striker, with the deal including an option to make the move permanent when the season ends.
The agreement reportedly allows Ajax to pay Arokodare’s full salary throughout the loan spell. It also includes a non mandatory purchase option worth €22 million, while Wolverhampton Wanderers will receive a loan fee along with performance related bonuses tied to Ajax’s qualification for European competitions.
Arokodare arrived at Wolves from Belgian club Genk last summer after enjoying an outstanding campaign that established him as one of Europe’s most consistent goalscorers. Expectations were high following his move to England, but he struggled to reproduce the same level of form in the Premier League.
The 25 year old endured a difficult campaign, managing six goals and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions as Wolves suffered relegation to the Championship after a disappointing season.
His inconsistent performances led to growing speculation over his future at the club, with reports suggesting he was eager to secure regular playing time elsewhere. During the transfer window, the Nigerian international was linked with possible moves to Turkish side Trabzonspor and Italian club Fiorentina.
Questions about his future intensified after reports emerged of an alleged disagreement at the club’s training ground, with claims that he had been asked to train away from the first team. Arokodare later dismissed the reports, insisting he remained committed and conducted himself professionally throughout his time at Wolves.
The move to Ajax now offers the striker an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and rediscover the form that made him one of Belgium’s standout forwards before his switch to England. With regular football expected in the Eredivisie, the Nigerian international will be hoping to make a strong impact and get his career back on track.
