Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has been presented with a signed official match ball from the 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture between Canada and Morocco, a gesture aimed at celebrating international friendship through sports.
The special souvenir was presented by Hajiya Abi Hafsat Sulaiman, wife of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly. She explained that the ball was sent by her son, Owen Goodman, who represented Canada at the tournament.
According to her, Goodman arranged for his teammates to sign the official match ball before sending it to Governor Mohammed as a mark of appreciation for the governor’s commitment to promoting sports and supporting youth development in Bauchi State.
Receiving the gift, Governor Mohammed expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, describing the autographed ball as a meaningful symbol of unity, goodwill and the power of sports to bring people together across nations.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in sports as an effective tool for empowering young people and creating opportunities for future generations. He also expressed optimism that Nigeria’s Super Eagles would qualify for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and make the country proud on the global stage.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Adamu Babayo Gabarin, alongside other senior government officials who witnessed the symbolic exchange.
