Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate reconstruction of three major federal roads in Niger State, alongside plans to extend the Bodo–Bonny Road to create better connectivity with the East–West Road in Rivers State. The decision was made during a working session with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, where infrastructure development and road durability were discussed as key priorities.
According to Zoyols , the projects in Niger State will be constructed using reinforced concrete pavement, a move aimed at improving road lifespan and reducing frequent maintenance challenges. The roads included in the reconstruction plan are the Mokwa–Bida Road, stretching about 120 kilometers, the Mokwa–Makeri Road covering 63 kilometers, and the Bida–Labata Road measuring approximately 123.5 kilometers. Authorities believe the use of concrete technology will help ensure smoother transportation and support economic activities across communities along the routes.
Attention was also given to the Bodo–Bonny Road expansion project in Rivers State. The road will be extended to connect directly with the East–West Road, with plans to build it as a dual carriageway. The project is also expected to include concrete pavement construction and installation of solar-powered street lighting to improve visibility and safety for motorists traveling at night.
Government officials have described the initiative as part of broader efforts to strengthen transportation infrastructure across different regions of the country, with hopes that improved roads will help boost trade, travel, and local business activities.
