The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. John Gabaya, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. The move, which was confirmed in a statement released in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ernest Agada, marks a major political shift in the council as the nation begins to look toward the 2027 general elections.
Gabaya is currently serving his second term as council chairman after first being elected on the PDP platform back in 2019. With his current tenure set to conclude this June, the Chairman has already set his sights on a higher office, seeking to represent the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the House of Representatives come 2027. This transition to the APC is seen as a strategic realignment intended to foster closer ties with the federal government.
Reflecting on his decision, the Chairman explained that the move followed a period of deep reflection, prayer, and extensive consultations with key stakeholders. He emphasized that the switch was carried out in strict compliance with the constitutional provisions of both political parties. Gabaya noted that he has wholeheartedly embraced the APC as the most viable platform for advancing peace, unity, and sustainable development within the Bwari Area Council.
In his remarks, Gabaya expressed deep appreciation for his supporters and former associates within the PDP, paying tribute to those who worked tirelessly for his previous electoral victories. He was quick to point out that leaving his former party does not mean he has become an enemy to his old colleagues.
