Chelsea Eyes Alonso and Iraola as Hunt for New Boss Heats Up

Zoyols News

Chelsea has officially intensified its search for a new head coach, initiating contact with several high-profile candidates to fill the vacancy left by Liam Rosenior. The move signals a shift in gear for the Stamford Bridge hierarchy as they look to secure a permanent leader before the pre-season begins in July. Among the names gaining the most traction are Xabi Alonso and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, both of whom have emerged as frontrunners for the role.

Xabi Alonso has positioned himself as a particularly strong contender. Despite a difficult seven-month stint at Real Madrid that ended in January, the Spanish tactician’s overall managerial pedigree remains highly attractive to the Chelsea board. His transformative work at Bayer Leverkusen and his elite-level understanding of the game are being cited as major advantages that could help steer the club back toward consistent success.

The recruitment process is moving swiftly, with multiple reports suggesting that Alonso is very much open to a return to the dugout. Decision-makers at the club reportedly see his profile as a perfect fit for the current squad, valuing his European experience and the tactical discipline he brings. While his time replacing Carlo Ancelotti in Madrid was brief, his status as a top-tier candidate with a distinguished resume has not wavered in the eyes of the Chelsea leadership.

In addition to Alonso, Andoni Iraola has become a central figure in the conversation. The Bournemouth boss has already confirmed his departure from the Cherries at the end of the current season, making him a readily available and highly sought-after option. Reports has also identified other names on the shortlist, including Marco Silva and Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. There is even internal admiration for former Chelsea stars Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis, though the focus seems tilted toward those with more extensive managerial track records.

While these behind-the-scenes negotiations continue between sporting directors and representatives, the club is balancing its long-term planning with immediate on-field priorities. Chelsea is reportedly eager to have a new manager in place before the squad gathers for pre-season training, yet the looming FA Cup final remains the primary focus for the current staff and players. As the hunt for a new tactical identity continues, fans are waiting to see which of these candidates will eventually take the reins at Stamford Bridge.
