D’Tigresses finished their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign without a single win after a heavy 111-56 defeat to France in Berlin.
The African champions struggled from the opening tip, as France dominated early and never looked back. The French side made a tournament-record 22 three-pointers in the process.
Captain Amy Okonkwo admitted the team could not find its rhythm, while head coach Rena Wakama described the current squad as being in a rebuilding phase following the strong showing at the 2024 Olympics.
Wakama noted that the French players, many of whom are established WNBA stars, were simply more experienced and in better form at this stage. She added that the focus now is on identifying Nigeria’s best talent ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
