Eight Finalists Emerge for Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball Title
The stage is set for the Final 8 of the 2026 NBBF and Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball Premier League, following the completion of the second phase of the competition across the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences.
The Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, will host the decisive stage of the competition, with the top four teams from each conference securing their places in the championship round.
MFM Women Basketball team and Nigeria Customs have emerged as the standout sides from the two conferences after impressive campaigns across both phases.
MFM were flawless throughout the competition, winning all 14 of their matches across the first and second phases. Nigeria Customs were equally dominant in the Savannah Conference, winning all 10 of their games to finish at the top and book their place among the leading contenders for the title.
Joining MFM from the Atlantic Conference are First Bank, Victoria Queens and Bayelsa Blue Whales. Nigeria Customs will be accompanied from the Savannah Conference by AS SKY Queens, Titans and Air Warriors.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation said the Final 8 is expected to take place in the last week of September at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Lagos. The exact dates are yet to be announced and will be communicated after receiving approval from the NBBF and Zenith Bank.
The federation also expressed appreciation to Zenith Bank for its continued support of women’s basketball in Nigeria and its contribution to the development of the sport.
MFM will enter the Final 8 with renewed determination to reclaim the title after losing it to Dolphins last year. Nigeria Customs, meanwhile, will be aiming to secure only the second league title in the club’s history.
For defending champions Dolphins, the campaign has taken a disappointing turn. The former champions failed to make the Final 8 after a poor showing across the two phases of the competition.
Dolphins managed just three victories from their games in the two phases and were only able to avoid relegation from the Atlantic Conference, bringing an underwhelming title defence to an early end.
