Elizabeth Musa, Programme Lead and Anchor of Business Morning Live on BusinessDay Television, has been recognised as the Innovative Media Personality of the Year at the Golden Prestigious Icons Awards 2025.
Musa emerged as the winner after receiving the highest support in the voting category, in recognition of her contributions and impact within Nigeria’s media industry.
Reflecting on the award, the journalist said she first learned about her nomination through social media and was initially unfamiliar with the organisation behind the awards.
Rather than immediately embracing the nomination, Musa said she took time to research the platform and conduct due diligence on the organisers before fully appreciating the significance of the recognition.
She described the nomination itself as an honour, particularly because she did not submit herself for consideration.
“I was genuinely honoured that someone had taken the time to nominate me,” she said.
According to Musa, being nominated through a process initiated by someone else gave her a sense that her work was being noticed and appreciated by people who had followed her career.
She believes her consistency, resilience, persistence and ability to adapt across different areas of the media industry may have played a role in her recognition.
Over the years, Musa has worked across radio, television and print, while also building experience in content creation, podcasting and media training. Her professional engagements have equally taken her into international and diplomatic conversations.
For a category focused on innovation in media, she believes that combination of experience and versatility, together with her willingness to continue learning and evolving, may have resonated with the organisers.
Musa described winning the award as an exciting moment and expressed appreciation to everyone who voted for her. She noted that the public voting element made the recognition particularly meaningful.
Beyond the personal satisfaction that comes with receiving the award, she sees it as a validation of her efforts and a reminder that greater responsibilities and opportunities lie ahead.
The journalist also reflected on her contributions to BusinessDay, where she has been involved in important projects, including the development of BusinessDay Television.
She said helping to establish a new media platform, shape its direction and contribute to its growth from the early stages has been challenging but rewarding.
Speaking about the future of the media industry, Musa said rapid technological changes, particularly the growth of artificial intelligence, are creating new opportunities for professionals willing to adapt.
She identified digital content, podcasts, online and video courses, educational materials and other new media products as areas that could offer significant opportunities for media practitioners.
Musa believes the media professionals who will thrive in the years ahead are those who can combine compelling storytelling with technology while building strong communities around their content.
“I think the future really belongs to media professionals who can combine strong storytelling with technology and understand how to build communities around their content,” she said.
Looking ahead, Musa said she intends to remain focused on creating, growing and using the platforms available to her to make a meaningful impact.
She said her plans include more storytelling, content creation, meaningful conversations and innovation, while leaving the bigger picture in God’s hands.
With close to a decade of professional experience, Musa has established herself as a broadcast journalist, business storyteller and professional events compere, with experience spanning television, multimedia storytelling and live events across Africa.
At BusinessDay Television, she leads and anchors Business Morning Live, where she engages business leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and industry experts on issues affecting Nigeria’s economy and business environment.
Before taking on her current role, Musa worked as a producer and presenter on Breakfast Central, the pan African morning programme aired by News Central Television.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the University of Benin, a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from the University of Lagos and a degree in Media Innovation from the School of Media and Communication at Pan Atlantic University.
Musa has also earned an additional certification from the University of Johannesburg, further adding to her academic and professional development in the media field.
