Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is reported to be in stable condition after collapsing during his country’s international friendly match against Ukraine.
The incident occurred in the 65th minute of the game in Odense when the experienced midfielder appeared to clutch his chest before suddenly falling to the ground. Following the alarming scene, the match was eventually called off.
In an update shared by the Danish Football Federation, officials confirmed that Eriksen had regained consciousness and was responding well following the incident.
The federation stated that the player was conscious and doing as well as could be expected under the circumstances, offering reassurance to supporters and the football community.
Further details were provided by Denmark’s national team doctor, Morten Boesen, who was also part of the medical team that attended to Eriksen during his cardiac arrest at the European Championship in 2021.
According to Boesen, the midfielder recovered consciousness shortly after the incident and was able to leave the pitch on his own. He explained that Eriksen’s implanted pacemaker functioned as intended and responded appropriately when needed.
The doctor revealed that the player was only briefly unconscious and quickly became responsive, allowing medical personnel to communicate with him shortly after treatment began.
Boesen added that Eriksen would undergo additional medical examinations at the hospital to determine the exact cause of the collapse. He noted that the medical team remains in close contact with both the player and hospital specialists overseeing his care.
Despite the scare, the doctor said Eriksen was in good spirits and even asked him to reassure his teammates. According to Boesen, the midfielder wanted everyone to know that he was doing well and sent his regards to the squad.
The incident sparked concern among football fans worldwide, many of whom immediately recalled the dramatic events of 2021 when Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s European Championship match against Finland and was successfully revived by medical personnel on the pitch.
