Nollywood actress Uju Okoli has found herself in the middle of a social media storm following a public show of support for her controversial colleagues, Yul Edochie and Judy Austin. The actress recently took to her Instagram page to celebrate the couple, both of whom are Capricorns and recently marked their birthdays.
In her post, which has been closely monitored by Reports, Uju shared a warm message for Yul, referring to him as the “Ronaldo of Nollywood” and wishing him the very best. She didn’t stop there; she also penned a belated note for Judy Austin, describing her as a gorgeous and amiable friend. Uju expressed that while she missed the actual birthday dates, she felt it was important to share her prayers and well-wishes for the pair, asking God to grant them many more years.
However, the gesture did not sit well with a large section of her followers. Many fans, still reeling from the highly publicized collapse of Yul’s marriage to his first wife, May Edochie, flooded the comment section with sharp criticisms. Some fans accused Uju of “supporting nonsense” and “eye service,” while others went as far as unfollowing the actress, claiming they could no longer support her career if she aligned herself with what they described as “evil.”
The backlash stems from the lingering controversy surrounding Yul and Judy’s relationship. The union famously led to the end of Yul’s long-term marriage to May, who eventually filed for divorce, sought a restraining order, and was granted full custody of their children. Since then, Yul and Judy have moved on to build a life together and are now parents to three sons.
Despite the heavy criticism, Yul Edochie has remained defiant, recently suggesting that those who attack his marital choices are often facing their own struggles in silence. Judy has also previously defended herself, stating that her first marriage had been dissolved years before she ever met Yul. Nevertheless, for many fans, the wounds of the split remain fresh, and as Uju Okoli recently discovered, any public display of affection toward the couple remains a risky move in the court of public opinion.
