FIFA and CAF have told the Nigerian Football Federation that they have not taken any decision yet on the ongoing issues surrounding football governance in the country.
In an email dated September 7, the world and African bodies stated they are still reviewing the legal, governance, administrative and electoral aspects of the situation. They said no conclusions have been reached and no next steps have been determined.
FIFA instructed Barrister Emmanuel Ikpeme, whom it recognises only as Deputy General Secretary, to serve as the main contact point for the NFF instead of the National Sports Commission for now. It also asked that the current electoral process be suspended until further notice.
The two bodies added that they will soon send a joint delegation to Abuja to meet with NFF officials, member associations, electoral bodies and government representatives as part of their assessment. They said the mission is to gather information before any recommendation is made.
Until the review is completed, FIFA and CAF said the outcome remains open and no assumptions should be made about possible actions.
