The election, scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, will produce a new president and other members of the federation’s executive board.
Speaking with sports journalists in Abuja at the weekend, Glover said all eligible contestants would be given equal opportunities to participate in the electoral process in line with the federation’s established guidelines.
He stressed that the committee would carry out its duties strictly within the powers provided by the NBBF statutes and applicable electoral procedures.
According to the legal practitioner, elections at national, continental and international levels are guided by specific rules, which must be respected to protect the integrity of the process and ensure credible outcomes.
Glover explained that one of the committee’s major responsibilities was to examine nomination documents and determine whether each aspirant had fulfilled the requirements for the position being contested.
He disclosed that the committee had completed its review of the nomination papers submitted by the presidential aspirants and would identify those who met the necessary conditions, as well as those who failed to satisfy the requirements.
Of the five aspirants nominated for the NBBF presidency, three were cleared to contest, while Mark Igoche was given additional time to complete his documentation.
Igoche has until Monday, October 12, to submit his outstanding tax clearance certificate. Failure to meet the deadline could result in his disqualification from the race.
The three presidential aspirants cleared by the committee are Olumide Joshua Oyedeji, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi and Ejike Ugboaja.
Former national coach and NBBF board member Ayo Bakare, who also submitted his nomination documents, was disqualified after turning in his form beyond the stipulated deadline.
In the race for the vice presidency, Ugo Udeze emerged as the sole nominee and was cleared by the committee to contest the position.
The zonal representative positions will feature contests in three zones. Osaze Omoroghon and Fubara Fibiga will compete for the South South seat, while Yusuf Surajo and Shaibu Mohammed are the candidates for the North West position.
In the South West, the contest will be between Adesanya Babatunde Adeola and Babatunde Omotayo Ogunade, popularly known as Babs Ogunade.
Meanwhile, Abubakar Kaka was listed as the sole candidate for the North East representative position, while Dr Mustapha Abdullahi was listed for the North Central seat. Ugo Udeze was also listed as the sole nominee for the South East representative position.
With the election just days away, attention will remain on the Electoral Committee as it concludes the qualification process and prepares for the vote that will determine the next leadership of Nigerian basketball.
