Excitement is building among staff of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board as the organisation prepares to welcome its newly appointed Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, following his appointment by the Federal Government.
Although the formal handover is still weeks away, many workers are already looking forward to the arrival of the new chief executive, expressing optimism that his administration will usher in a fresh phase for the examination body.
Within the organisation, the mood has been described as one of quiet celebration, with staff members reportedly planning activities to mark the beginning of the new leadership. Some Christian and Muslim employees are also expected to hold thanksgiving services and special prayer sessions in anticipation of what they believe will be a promising era for JAMB.
For many members of staff, the excitement goes beyond the appointment itself. They are hopeful that the incoming administration will improve staff welfare, create better opportunities for career advancement, ensure fair promotions and strengthen personnel management across the board.
There is also a growing expectation that the new leadership will foster a more supportive working environment while building on the board’s achievements in delivering credible examination and admission services nationwide.
Professor Aina’s appointment has attracted widespread attention because of his outstanding academic record and professional accomplishments. At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, a Master of Science degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service, where he gained firsthand experience in the country’s admissions system and data driven institutional operations.
Over the past 15 years, he has built a strong reputation at the intersection of technology, public policy and institutional reform, providing guidance to government agencies and organisations on digital transformation, systems development and operational improvement.
His experience also includes consulting roles with major examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board and several state ministries of education, where he contributed to projects focused on information technology systems, examination credibility and process improvement.
As his resumption draws closer, many employees believe his expertise in technology, innovation and institutional reform will strengthen JAMB’s operations and further enhance its role in Nigeria’s education sector.
