Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has set clear conditions for any political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking to a crowd of supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano, the former governor revealed that his doors are open for collaboration, but only if the terms are right.
Kwankwaso made it known that he is not interested in any partnership where he is sidelined. He specifically stated that any party looking to align with him must be prepared to offer him either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot. For the veteran politician, these positions are non-negotiable requirements for any serious political merger at the national level.
The timing of these remarks is particularly interesting, as rumors have been swirling about the loyalty of his political protégé, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Speculation has grown that the Kano State Governor might be considering a move from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Kwankwaso was quick to shut down such talk during the Kwankwasiyya gathering. He dismissed the reports of the Governor’s potential defection as completely unrealistic, labeling the claims as nothing more than a “dream.” By reinforcing his grip on the party and setting his sights on the 2027 ballot, Kwankwaso seems determined to maintain his status as a major kingmaker in Nigerian politics.
