Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
Kwankwaso made the call on Thursday when members of the Fulani Farmers Association visited him at his residence in Abuja.
The former Kano State governor said Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), should consider stepping away from the contest and devote more attention to his traditional responsibilities as the Wazirin Adamawa.
He also pointed to Atiku’s age and health as part of the reasons behind his appeal, urging supporters of the ADC candidate to encourage him to reconsider his decision to contest the presidency in 2027.
According to Kwankwaso, the Fulani community should approach Atiku and advise him in Fulfulde to focus on his traditional role.
“Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health.
“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him,” Kwankwaso said.
