Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic disruption along the Lekki–Ajah corridor as repair work intensifies on the busy expressway. The affected section will see a full closure of the Epe-bound lane, stretching from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge in Ajah, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and ease long-term traffic challenges for commuters.
The announcement was made through a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi. According to the statement, the closure is necessary to allow construction teams work continuously from one intersection to another without interruption from passing traffic. Officials explained that the project forms part of broader infrastructure upgrades across the state.
To help reduce inconvenience for motorists, traffic movement will be redirected to the Lagos-bound side of the expressway. During morning rush hours, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., two lanes will serve vehicles heading toward Lagos, while one lane will remain available for Epe-bound traffic. In the evening and late-night periods, roughly from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., the arrangement will be reversed, with two lanes supporting Epe-bound movement and one lane supporting traffic heading toward Lagos. Authorities advised drivers to exercise patience and plan their journeys ahead.
Motorists have also been encouraged to explore alternative routes where possible, especially the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, to help reduce congestion along the corridor. The state government further assured residents that traffic officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be positioned strategically along the route to help maintain smooth traffic flow. Emergency response support will also be available, with tow trucks stationed nearby to quickly handle vehicle breakdowns or road incidents.
Zoyols notes that the rehabilitation project is expected to improve transportation efficiency and support economic activities within the Lekki–Ajah axis once fully completed.
