Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on members of the People’s Democratic Party to remain united and unwavering amid the recent wave of defections from the party.
Speaking during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Transportation Subcommittee on Monday, Governor Makinde urged members not to lose hope, stressing that the current challenges facing the party are only temporary. He assured them that the PDP would emerge stronger and more focused ahead of future elections.
He reminded party faithful that the PDP remains a truly national movement with a presence in every ward across the country. According to him, the ongoing defections should not be viewed as a setback but as an opportunity to rebuild and return the party to its founding ideals.
Governor Makinde expressed optimism that the forthcoming national convention would produce leaders with the vision and credibility to restore public confidence in the PDP and reignite Nigerians’ trust in democratic governance.
Recalling his previous role as Secretary of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee in 2021, the governor said he accepted the chairmanship of the Transportation Subcommittee as part of his continued commitment to the party’s progress. He explained that the committee’s responsibility is vital to ensuring the seamless movement of delegates and supporters from across the country to Ibadan for the event.
He encouraged members to see their duties as acts of sacrifice and dedication toward rebuilding the PDP and setting Nigeria back on the path of growth and stability.
“Times like this often define the true believers,” Makinde said. “It may seem difficult now, but it’s a phase that will pass. Great things are built through moments of challenge, and this is when real heroes will stand out. Every role, no matter how small, contributes to our collective success. So, let’s stay committed, hold our corners, and keep faith in the leadership we are building together.”
