Moniepoint Inc. has stepped up efforts to increase women’s participation in technology through a new initiative focused on leadership development, engineering skills and product innovation.
The programme, organised in Lagos as part of activities marking International Women’s Day, brought together women from different areas of the tech ecosystem for training, mentorship and practical learning sessions.
The event was hosted at Moniepoint’s headquarters in collaboration with Women Techmakers Lagos and Google Developer Group Lagos.
With the theme “Break the Pattern,” the initiative featured keynote sessions, panel discussions and hands on workshops designed to help participants strengthen their skills in software development, product building and artificial intelligence powered solutions.
According to Moniepoint, the programme forms part of its wider commitment to addressing long standing barriers that have limited the involvement of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics related careers.
Speaking during the event, the company’s Head of Product, Kemi Nwogu, said many young girls are still subtly discouraged from pursuing careers in technology because of societal expectations and stereotypes.
She encouraged participants to continue building their skills through coding bootcamps, online courses, open source projects and practical product experience.
The programme also featured a panel session focused on leadership in Nigeria’s technology industry, where professionals from fintech, software engineering and creative sectors shared personal experiences about career growth, workplace culture and overcoming challenges in male dominated spaces.
One of the major highlights of the event was a workshop centred on AI assisted product development. Participants were introduced to prompt engineering, prototype building and application deployment before taking part in a buildathon where teams created functional digital products.
Organisers explained that the practical nature of the programme was designed to help participants move beyond theory and gain confidence in turning ideas into working solutions.
Co organiser Funke Olasupo said the goal was to focus not only on inspiration but also on helping women develop real technical capabilities.
The initiative is part of Moniepoint’s broader investment in Nigeria’s growing developer ecosystem through partnerships, internal training programmes and support for emerging tech talent.
