The New Nigeria Peoples Party has cautioned the Nigeria Democratic Congress and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against picking Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso as running mate, saying the former NNPP presidential flag bearer could later turn against them.
The warning, issued Monday by National Secretary General Ogini Olaposi, pointed to Kwankwaso’s fallout with the NNPP after he ran on the party’s platform in the 2023 presidential election. Olaposi called Obi’s reported choice a gross mistake and said the NDC ought to have weighed that history before settling on him.
He argued that parties must be careful about who they present as flag bearers and running mates. According to him, Kwankwaso used a party that lifted him into the presidential race, gave him a platform, and stood behind him, only to later act as if he owed it nothing. Olaposi added that a man who has betrayed once will betray again, and that time would bear the party out.
